Community pool to close Monday

The Laguna Beach High School and Community Pool will close for repairs for three weeks beginning Monday, according to the city’s website.

Crews will replace filters and a broken drain in the men’s locker room, install energy-efficient lighting and repair cracked concrete on the pool deck, Laguna Beach Unified School District facilities Director Ted Doughty said. The pool will reopen June 9, the city’s website said.

The project is expected to cost $285,000, but could end up being less because the district and city did not hire a general contractor to manage all the subcontractors, Doughty said.

Pool manager Adam Gufarotti and Doughty are handling general contractor duties such as coordinating construction.

“We could see at least a 15% to 20% savings,” Doughty said. The city will pay 70% of the eventual cost while the district contributes the remaining 30% under their joint use agreement.

“We have been planning this closure for over a year with these dates chosen to be the least impactful on city and school district classes,” Gufarotti wrote in an email.

Any questions about the closure may be sent to Gufarotti at agufarotti@lagunabeachcity.net.
