Tamara Campbell is no longer the Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce’s executive director, the organization announced in a news release Monday.

Kristine Thalman, who served as executive director for 2 1/2 years before retiring late last year, will take Campbell’s place.

“It was in the best interests of both Tamara and the chamber to part company,” chamber President Larry Nokes said during an interview. Nokes declined to specify whether Campbell resigned or was fired.

Campbell, who began with the chamber in February, did not return an email seeking comment Monday.

Chamber board members contacted Thalman last week about filling the position.

“Personally I was getting used to retirement, but I’m flattered that they called me back,” Thalman said. “My first reaction was to help out. I couldn’t say no.”

Thalman, who lives in Laguna, owns a business focusing on nonprofit management, government relations and strategic planning.

“We are excited about Kristine’s return to the chamber,” Nokes said in the release. “She brings remarkable perspective, knowledge and experience, and she has significant history with our organization.”

The chamber represents more than 340 members and was established in 1917.
