The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach opened a new branch last week at the Lang Park Community Center in South Laguna.

The club will provide the same afterschool activities for students in grades 1 through 5 at its new branch, at 21547 Wesley Drive, as it does for its main facility, at 1085 Laguna Canyon Road, and an accompanying site in Bluebird Park, area Director Elena Mendoza said.

In June, the City Council unanimously authorized the club’s exclusive use of the community center’s multipurpose room for activities.

Certain city recreation classes needed to find new homes, including the Lang Park gym and the Boys & Girls club’s main branch, to make way for the afterschool programs.

As of Monday, the new branch, which has a capacity for 50 children, had 14 members, Mendoza said.

Club hours at Lang are 2:30 to 6 p.m. weekdays during the school year and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the summer.
