Police raise funds for officer after death of his newborn

The Laguna Beach Police Department is asking for the public’s prayers and financial support for an officer whose daughter died three days after her birth, Laguna Beach Police Employees Assn. President Larry Bammer said.

Isabella Ayiana Michaud, daughter of Patrol Officer James Michaud and his wife, Laura, died just after 9 p.m. Monday after being taken off life support, Bammer wrote in an email. Isabella, born Oct. 3, had been deprived of oxygen, which led to complications, he added.

Association members have surrounded the Michauds, who married in 2012, with support as they make funeral arrangements, according to a news release.

James Michaud is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who became a Laguna Beach police officer four years ago.
