An actor in the “Desperate Housewives” television series, which ran from 2004 until 2012, will speak about missing and sexually exploited children at the Soroptimist International of Laguna Beach meeting Tuesday, according to a news release.

Richard Burgi, the U.S. Congress-appointed spokesman for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, will address the topic at the 6 p.m. dinner at Tivoli Terrace. The event is open to the public.

The center, established in 1984, is the leading nonprofit organization in the U.S. working with families, law enforcement and other professionals on issues related to missing and sexually exploited children.

As part of its congressional authorization, the center has created a public-private partnership to build a coordinated, national response to the problem, establish a missing-children hotline and serve as the national clearinghouse for related information.
