Newport testing sirens at noon Friday

Newport Beach will begin testing its coastal emergency sirens noon Friday and will repeat its testing the first Friday of each month. When activated for real emergency notifications, the sirens will sound for an extended time at a much higher sound level, according to a city news release. Sirens have been placed so emergency signals can be heard in West Newport, along the Balboa Peninsula and at Big Corona Beach.
