A Costa Mesa man pleaded not guilty Wednesday on accusations he opened his car door and flashed girls between the ages of 14 and 17 multiple times near high schools in Santa Ana.

Alfredo Landaverde, 48, is accused of opening the driver’s side door of a white minivan and exposing his penis. In some cases, prosecutors say, he began smiling and masturbating.

The alleged incidents occurred between 7:30 and 8 a.m. Oct. 3 and Dec. 6 near Valley High School and Godinez Fundamental High School in Santa Ana.

The alleged victims told school officials, who helped Santa Ana police investigate.

Landaverde faces four misdemeanor counts of indecent exposure and six misdemeanor counts of child annoyance.

Those crimes carry a maximum penalty of six years in jail and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration.

The investigating is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Supervising District Attorney Investigator Lee Smith at (714) 834-7538.

A pre-trail hearing is scheduled for Landaverde on Feb. 4.
