Civil rights activist to speak at OCC

A Civil Rights Movement-era activist who worked with Martin Luther King will appear at Orange Coast College to speak about peace and nonviolence for Black History Month.

Bernard LaFayette Jr. is scheduled to talk Feb. 24 about the historical perspective of peace and nonviolence as part of OCC’s Distinguished Speaker Series. He worked on King’s staff in the 1960s and was a leader of the Freedom Riders, among other civil rights enterprises.

He is also a minister and the founding director of the University of Rhode Island’s Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies

LaFayette will speak at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 24 in Fine Arts 116 at Orange Coast College, 2701 Fairview Road, Costa Mesa.

Admission is free, but participants should park in the metered spaces in parking lots C and D.
