British adventurer heading to Newport Beach

The 2010 National Geographic Adventurer of the Year is heading to Newport Beach to share her tales of rowing across the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans.

Roz Savage will open the ExplorOcean/Newport Harbor Nautical Museum’s Waterman Lecture Series on Thursday at the Streele Model Pavilion, 600 E. Bay Ave. in Newport Beach.

Savage, a British ocean rower, holds four world records including the first woman to row three oceans. She is a United Nations Climate Hero, a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, an international fellow of the Explorer’s Club of New York and was named on of the top 20 Great British Adventurers by the Daily Telegraph.

Roz will take the main stage at 4 p.m. for a two-part presentation on her recording-breaking ocean adventure of solo rowing 15,000 miles. Guests will get the chance to ask questions at 7 p.m. in a session moderated by Newport Beach Independent editor Roger Bloom.

Admission is free for Newport Harbor Nautical Museum members and $10 each for the 4 and 7 p.m. presentations.
