Pizza Bakery hosting fundraiser for Crystal Morales

Friends of a high school student hit by an alleged intoxicated driver are continuing to raise money for her medical treatment.

The community can help raise money for Newport Harbor High School senior Crystal Morales during a fundraiser in Newport Beach from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, now through Friday, at the Pizza Bakery, 1741 Westcliff Drive, Alexandra Holbrook, a friend of Crystal, wrote in an email.

Crystal was walking across Irvine Avenue next to the high school after school on Dec. 6 when she was hit.

Crystal suffered serious brain and internal injuries. She has been placed in a medically induced coma at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana.

Marnie Lippincott, 38, of Costa Mesa pleaded not guilty to felony driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and causing serious brain injury in relation to the crash. She faces a maximum sentence of up to eight years in prison if convicted of all charges.

Lippincott is expected to be in court March 9 for a pretrial hearing.
