Costa Mesa students eligible for teen police academy
The Costa Mesa Police Department will provide a six-week Teen Academy beginning June 28.
The program, which is open to any Costa Mesa residents who attend Estancia or Costa Mesa high schools, or a private school, allows students to learn from different departments such as Patrol, Traffic Enforcement, Criminal Investigations, S.W.A.T., K-9, and Narcotics, according to a press release.
Students can go with officers on ride-alongs and will be able to participate in instructional demonstrations.
Classes will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays. The program can satisfy community service hours at some high schools, the release said.
Applications are available at the Police Department’s front desk and https://www.costamesapd.gov.
