Newport could seek FAA go-ahead
The Newport Beach City Council will have its first meeting following this week’s big move into its new civic digs at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
While the council has met in its new council chambers since December, city staff spent a few days packing up files and preparing for the weekend haul.
At Tuesday’s meeting, the council is expected to approve a letter to the Federal Aviation Administration asking it to consider a revised pattern for flights leaving John Wayne Airport.
The proposed procedure would mitigate the noise and how it affects the community, according to the letter and a staff report.
The council is also expected to opt not to phase in new California Public Employee Retirement System, or CalPERS, rate changes. Instead, a staff report said, the changes should be implemented more quickly.
At a 4 p.m. study session, the council will hear a presentation on the Newport Harbor Tidal Gate, Balboa Island flood insurance issues and residential lot mergers.
