Celebrating 100 years of ministry

The First United Methodist Church of Costa Mesa celebrated 100 years of ministry and service Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday’s festivities included a Centennial Celebration Choir Concert featuring the church’s choir and guest choirs from the Mesa Verde United Methodist Church in Costa Mesa, University United Methodist Church in Irvine, Christ Church by the Sea United Methodist Church in Newport Beach and the Chinese Alliance Church Choir.

First United had a re-dedication and celebration worship service with Bishop MaryAnn Swenson presiding, which was followed by the dedication of the church’s new Serenity Garden, according to a news release.

The celebration concluded with a Centennial Organ Concert featuring the church’s two pipe organs with Organist in Residence Philip M. Riddick.
