New 10K race course designed for annual run
The Costa Mesa Community Run unveiled a new 10K race course as part of its fifth anniversary celebration.
The course, designed by California cross-country legend George Varvas, will take runners through Fairview Park and Talbert Regional Park, along the eastern bank of the Santa Ana River on April 28.
Varvas is the race’s new director and founder of the Woodbridge Invitational Cross Country Classic, which takes place at Estancia High School and is now the nation’s third largest cross-country event, according to a press release.
The community run, which has raised more than $55,000 for Costa Mesa public schools, also will continue to have its 5K and 2K courses. About 1,000 participants are expected to run this year, and prizes will be given out to the top three male and female runners in the 5K and 10K races. Both start at 8 am.
As part of the race weekend, the Costa Mesa Community Run Expo and Family Fun Night will begin at 5 p.m. April 27 at Estancia High School, according to the release. The expo will have booths, food, children’s rides and live music from the Dan Krikorian Band.
