Kids to honor troops with letter-writing project

The Festival of Children Foundation is co-sponsoring an effort this weekend to set the record for “most cards written for the troops in one afternoon,” according to a news release.

The Costa Mesa-based nonprofit’s partner is Irvine-based Team Kids. The event, dubbed Letters from Home, takes place from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at South Coast Plaza’s Carousel Court, 3333 Bristol St., Costa Mesa.

Art supplies will be on hand for the children to use. Military personnel will interact with the crowd.

Letters from Home coincides with Global Youth Service Day, an international service day geared toward youth. It was founded in 1988 and has participants in more than 100 countries.
