More than a dozen local public and private schools — including many in Costa Mesa and Newport Beach — are receiving a donation of more than $8,000 total from Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market.

The El Segundo-based grocery store chain is donating to 14 schools for its fourth annual Shop for Schools program, which gives participating campuses $1 for every $20 spent in the store.

Newport Christian School earned $839, Waldorf School of Orange County $770, Victoria Elementary School $741, Newport Heights Elementary School $726, Sonora Elementary School $610, Davis Magnet School $571 and St. John the Baptist Catholic School $554.

Newport Harbor High School earned $502, Pomona Elementary School $400 and Mariners Elementary School $116. Three other local schools earned money by shopping at the Costa Mesa location.

“In a time when school budgets continue being cut, we’re happy to be donating over $8,000 to Costa Mesa schools,” said Fresh & Easy Costa Mesa District Manager Tami McClary in a prepared statement. “Shop for Schools is much more than just a fundraising program — it is a great way for us to directly help our neighbors, teachers and future leaders, and we’re thrilled to be bringing the program back in the fall.”

Schools within a 3-mile radius of any Fresh & Easy store can register for the program by going to https://www.freshandeasy.com/shopforschools. Registration for the fall program is now open.
