Beverley Violet (Christensen) McGowan

Beverley Violet (Christensen) McGowan was born March 8, 1927, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and was a 44-year resident of Newport Beach.

Wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and confidante, Beverley will be remembered most for her unwavering love, kindness, generosity of spirit and enduring faith during good and challenging times.

Never one to complain or disparage others, she loved her family fiercely, including son Sean, daughter Erin Peacock (Bill), and the lights of her life, her grandchildren, Griffin and Megan. She also held a special place in her heart for her stepdaughter, Patricia Liddell (Phil, and their son Brian), family friends Cece and Connor, and her precious cat, Samantha.

She was uncompromising in her love and support for her husband, Jim, who passed away before her. She was devoted to her three brothers and sister, Jeanine Shea, Larry, Don (deceased) and Lynn, and their families.

Beverley came to Southern California in her early 20s, working during the glory days of Hollywood at RKO and Paramount Studios, as a script girl and executive assistant to many of Hollywood’s pioneers and legends.

She moved in 1966 to Newport Beach with her young family and devoted the rest of her life to them, teaching her children the true meaning of love, compassion and forgiveness.

She was an accomplished amateur artist, having spent many years at art classes at Oasis Senior Center, where she found great happiness.

She attended the University of Utah in her youth, and received her fine arts certificate from Coastline Community College in 1994. She also served as president of the Newport Beach chapter of the Delphian Society from 1972-73, an organization dedicated to promoting the education of women in the arts, literature and history. She will missed by many but she taught us all that love was unconditional and forever.
