COSTA MESA—The contract for City Communication Director Bill Lobdell was extended for another 90 days, announced a nonpartisan government watchdog group on Monday.

The extended contract for Lobdell, who was hired in March at $3,000 a week to increase transparency in city government, exceeds the city’s $200,000 communications budget, according to the group.

The group also claims out that no other bids were considered for the position.

Lobdell was not immediately available for comment on Monday.
