Newport Beach plays host to events for Firefighter Olympics
The Firefighter Olympics continued in Newport Beach on Tuesday.
About 4,000 firefighters and their families representing agencies from across California were expected to attend the event, which began Sunday and was to go through Friday. The Firefighter Olympics features 32 events, including surfing, golf, bass fishing, basketball and volleyball.
The olympics are being held at locations around the Newport Beach, including Harbor Day School, Lincoln Elementary, the West Newport Community Center, Corona del Mar main beach and the Santa Ana River Bike Trail, according to the event guide. Some events are scheduled for other Southern California cities.
The Firefighter Olympics began in 1970 to promote camaraderie among those in the fire service profession, while also encouraging physical fitness.
