Three wanted in connection to weekend armed robbery

Three suspects were being sought Monday after a weekend armed robbery at a Costa Mesa convenience store, police said.

About 9:15 p.m. Friday, two men entered a convenience store at 2989 Fairview Ave. and demanded money and liquor, according to Costa Mesa Sgt. Phil Myers.

According to the police report, a suspect armed with a sawed-off shotgun hidden under his sweatshirt demanded money from the clerk, while the other suspect served as a lookout. The men fled in a charcoal-colored Toyota Camry, driven by a third suspect, with about $600 in cash and alcohol, Myers said.

Police said the suspected robbers were described as Hispanic men in their early 20s and between 5 feet, 11 inches and 6 feet, 2 inches tall. They wore black hooded sweatshirts and had their faces covered.

By the time police arrived, the suspects were gone, Myers said.

The robbery may be related to a similar crime reported the same night in Fullerton, said Sgt. Andrew Goodrich of the Fullerton Police Department.

Goodrich said a liquor-store robbery was reported later Friday at 111 N. Raymond Ave. Police said the suspects and vehicle had similar descriptions as those reported in Costa Mesa.
