The Newport Beach Police Department is looking for residents interested in joining its Citizens’ Academy.

The free program is designed to increase awareness about departmental operations, said police spokeswoman Kathy Lowe.

Department personnel will share their expertise in SWAT, K-9, narcotics, patrol operations, traffic laws and firearms, Lowe said.
