The Orange County Business Council has endorsed Colin McCarthy, Steve Mensinger and Gary Monahan for Costa Mesa City Council, the three-man conservative slate dubbed the ‘3Ms.’

“Costa Mesa, with its cultural and retail destinations, is part of the economic engine that helps drive Orange County’s prosperity,” business council President and Chief Executive Lucy Dunn said in a news release. “OCBC recognizes that Monahan, Mensinger and McCarthy understand the balance between business and government needed to enhance economic development in the region.”

The council credited McCarthy’s time on the city Planning Commission for bringing businesses to Harbor Boulevard and The Triangle, the shopping center formerly known as Triangle Square.

Monahan was recognized for his time on the Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce and the Costa Mesa Tourism and Promotions Council Board, as well as being a local business owner.

The group pointed to Mensinger’s work as City Council liaison to the Redevelopment and Residential Rehabilitation (3R) Committee, as well as his 26 years in the real estate industry.

“They have shown their commitment to building a strong future for Costa Mesa, as well as being advocates of the … core initiatives the business council supports,” Dunn said.

Mensinger and Monahan are running to keep their seats. There are three open council seats on the November ballot.

The other council candidates are former Mayor Sandy Genis, retired certified public accountant Al Melone, engineer James Rader, business attorney John Stephens and businessman Harold Weitzberg.
