Home tour raises funds for CdM

Driving around Newport Beach, it’s easy to wonder whether the interiors of the homes are as spectacular as the exteriors.

Corona del Mar High School’s 36th annual Home Tour on Oct. 23 gives participants a chance to find out by taking a self-guided tour of six homes in Beacon Bay, Shore Cliff, the Port Streets, Bonita Canyon and Irvine Terrace.

“Here you can answer all your questions by being invited inside,” said Home Tour organizer Michele Gile.

The tour is sandwiched between a light breakfast at Fashion Island’s Le Pain Quotidien and a wine and appetizers post-party at Bliss Home Design, Gile said.

The day is broken up with a luncheon by Chef Pascal Olhats of Cafe Jardin at the Sherman Library & Gardens where participants can also browse a French-market like boutique, she said.

“It is really one of the best days you will spend in Newport Beach,” Gile said.

Corona del Mar resident Andrew Patterson, president and owner of Patterson Construction, has made it a point to be a part of the Home Tour for the last four years.

A builder exclusive to Newport Beach known for his Eastern Seaborne architecture, Patterson said he designs one special home for free each year with the understanding that it will be featured in the tour.

“I’m really excited to be a part of it,” he said. “It’s a phenomenal thing.”

The event is the CdM PTA’s biggest fundraiser, grossing $185,000 last year alone.

After expenses, the funds pay for everything from staff development and teacher grants to campus renovation projects, the middle school’s Renaissance program and a program aimed at curbing drunk driving, said PTA President Sue Ellen O’Connor.

“The Home Tour, it just keeps us afloat,” she said. “It keeps Corona del Mar operating at a high level. It keeps us competitive.”
