Thomas A. Parham will take over as the interim vice chancellor for student affairs at UC Irvine, the university has announced.

Parham attended UCI in the 1970s and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social ecology. He went on to Washington University in St. Louis for a master’s degree in counseling psychology and then to Southern Illinois State to earn his doctorate in counseling psychology.

As assistant vice chancellor, Parham worked closely with former Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Manuel Gomez, who left the university after 38 years. Parham has previously held positions as an adjunct faculty member and the director of the career center, and has chaired UCI’s Martin Luther King Jr. Symposium since 2000.
