Pedestrian dies in Newport accident

An unidentified man died after a traffic accident on East Coast Highway in Newport Coast, authorities said.

The victim, who was not identified, was walking near the Crystal Cove Promenade at 7:48 p.m. Saturday, according to the Orange County coroner’s office.

He was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana and died after succumbing to injuries he sustained in the accident at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, according to the coroner.

The driver of the vehicle was not cited or arrested, and the investigation is ongoing, according to Newport Beach police spokeswoman Kathy Lowe.
