UC Irvine Extension and its OpenCourseWare initiative won four Impact awards at the 2012 Internet Marketing Assn. Conference in Las Vegas in September.

UCI Extension won best Facebook, best Facebook “Like” outreach, best webinar series – educational and best webinar/vodcast/podcast – educational series, the program announced Thursday.

“We’re very pleased to be recognized for our efforts in Internet marketing,” said Scott Rutherford, UCI Extension director of marketing and communications. “It’s validating because we market ourselves using these techniques but we also have a program that teaches Internet marketing.”

Last year, UCI Extension formed a strategy to get current and future students interested in social media and its benefits like marketing, project management, education and employee training, Rutherford said.

The program created a custom-developed Facebook app designed to increase the number of “likes” on the UCI Extension Facebook page. It also received student and alumni testimonials for promotional use online and in marketing.

UCI Extension also created the UCI Internet Marketing Webinar Series, which was developed to help marketing professionals learn how to use social media to grow their businesses.

Also, UCI Extension implemented the “Open Chemistry” project, which published a full undergraduate and partial graduate program of 13 or more quarter-length courses online for free. During spring 2012, more than 75 lectures were filmed and uploaded to YouTube. The OpenCourseWare website was also created in the spring.
