Shopping event proceeds to help local charities

More than 60 vendors will participate in the Shopping with a Heart charity holiday boutique Wednesday at the OC Mart MIX, an organizer said this week.

The more than two-decades old annual event put on by the Newport Beach chapter of the National Charity League will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the shopping center on Hyland Avenue in Costa Mesa, said co-Chairwoman Sue Willett.

Vendors will donate 15% of sales to benefit local charities, including Girls Inc., Second Step, Heritage House, Orange Coast Interfaith Center and Special Camps for Special Kids.

The group aims to raise $15,000 from the event. Last year $10,000 was raised, Willett said.
