Suspected drunk driver hits teen near high school
An SUV struck a 17-year-old girl crossing the street near Newport Harbor High School on Tuesday, authorities said.
The teenager was listed in very serious condition after a black Chevy Tahoe hit her as she walked away from the school in a crosswalk about 2:50 p.m., said Newport Beach Police Department spokeswoman Kathy Lowe.
Police arrested the driver, Marnie J. Lippincott, 38, of Costa Mesa on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Police also sent out an alert to residents saying the area where the girl was hit would be closed to traffic for about four hours.
