A Garden Grove man authorities allege fired about 50 shots into the air and ground at Fashion Island may be responsible for a similar incident in 2011, prosecutors announced Tuesday.

Prosecutors charged Marcos Gurrola, 42, with 54 counts of shooting at an occupied building and two felony counts of aggravated assault, in addition to 10 felony counts of negligent discharge of a firearm for a previous incident, the Orange County district attorney announced Tuesday.

A mother and her 4-year-old daughter suffered minor injuries after being pushed by panicked shoppers in Saturday’s incident, prosecutors said.

That day, Gurrola exited his white Honda with a Glock .40 automatic handgun and six magazines, firing 54 rounds toward the Macy’s building, according to the D.A.’s office.

Gurrola had ammunition for three other caliber weapons in his car when Newport Beach police arrested him, prosecutors said.

Authorities said none of the bullets Gurrola fired struck the Macy’s building.

In investigating the shots fired Saturday, police discovered Gurrola may be tied to a Nov. 16, 2011, incident in which he is accused of firing 10 rounds from a gun in a parking lot at Fashion Island.

Gurrola’s court hearing was moved to Jan. 11. If convicted on all counts he faces 115 years in prison.
