Dorothy Mary Catanese
CATANESE, Dorothy Mary, daughter of Agnes and William Engley, of Providence, Rhode Island, passed away quietly on April 10th, 2012, with her daughter, Susan at her side. She was a resident of Costa Mesa for 58 years. Dottie, as her close friends and family called her, was born in Providence, Rhode Island, October 26th, 1923. She was first in her class in typing and stenography. She was the Office Manager at the Providence Red Cross, until she married and became a homemaker. She was married to Charles P. Catanese for 30 years. They moved to Costa Mesa in the early 50s with their two daughters, Barbara Ann and Susan Marie. Barbara passed away in 1993, following a 10 year battle with cancer. Dottie was a homemaker until the early 1970s. She was an expert seamstress, avid reader and excellent cook. Besides being very creative, she was always the life of the party with her quick Irish wit and sparkling sense of humor. She and her family attended St. Joachim’s Catholic Church for twenty years, and were very active in that parish. Dottie is survived by her daughter, Susan Catanese (Schreurs); grandson, Bejan Etemadi; grandaughter, Lida Woodard; great grandsons Bejan Jr. and Kody Etemadi; great grandaughter, Megan McKinney ; and great great grandson, Daniel Etemadi. A private service will be held by her family, where they will release her ashes into the sea near her favorite getaway, The Hotel Laguna. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate your prayers and love to her memory, and think of her when you laugh from time to time. For laughter is what sailed her through her life to the end.
