Mary Alice Frank passed away peacefully on April 9th at her home in Pasadena. She was 86.
Mary Alice was the middle child of three children of Ruth and Roger Bentley of Glendale, where she grew-up and attended Hoover High School. Following in the footsteps of her older sister, Mary Alice enrolled at Pomona College where she majored in Chinese Studies and graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1947. It was also at Pomona that she met the love of her life, Richard N. Frank. They enjoyed a long, happy, and fulfilling life together, celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary in September 2012. Through the years, Mary Alice worked closely with her husband as he grew Lawry’s Foods and Lawry’s Restaurants into world-renowned businesses. On her own, she established a successful interior design firm, was a long-term member of the Pasadena Art Alliance, and served for a number of years on the Pasadena Design Commission. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, crossword puzzles, art and design, travelling, and most of all spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her older sister, Barbara Diamond, and her younger brother,
William “Bill” Bentley. She is survived by her husband, Richard; her children, Laurie Wilson,
Susie Frank (Jeff D’Angelo), and Richard R. Frank; her grandchildren, Sarah Wilson Hannay
(Robby), Ryan Wilson (Nikki), Merin Guthrie (Will), Taylor Frank, and Carter Frank; and one great grandson, Miles Hannay. Mary Alice was a gracious, kind, generous woman with a feisty sense of humor and a contagious zest for life. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Memorial services are pending. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in her name to: Attn: Dawn Pattison Office of Donor Relations, Pomona College, 550 N. College Avenue, Claremont, California 91711.
