Irvine man reportedly kills wife, calls 911 to report crime, police say

A 40-year-old Irvine man was in custody Tuesday after he called 911 to say he killed his wife during an argument, police said.

Shalabh Rastogi called police about 9:40 p.m. Monday and admitted to the crime, said Lt. Julia Engen of the Irvine Police Department. Officers arrived at the couple’s apartment a few minutes later and found the 40-year-old woman “obviously deceased.”

Rastogi cooperated with police and was arrested, Engen said. He was booked in the Orange County Jail on murder charges.

Rastogi and his wife, whose named was not released, were married for 13 years, Engen said. They moved into the apartment with their three children about eight months ago.
