Donald Jones, longtime resident of the Balboa Peninsula, passed away February 29th after a long battle with cancer. Don was born in Alhambra, California in 1931. He attended Newport Beach Grammar School and Harbor High where he was Vice President of the student body. College Years were spent at UC Berkeley which he loved and supported all of his life. He got his MBA at USC. He was a Newport Beach Lifeguard during the summer vacations.
He achieved a rank of Captain in the Armored Tank Corp., serving at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and two years in Germany. After the service, he worked for Hughes Semiconductors before following in his father’s footsteps into real estate and development (Paul Jones Realty) for the rest of his working days. In addition, he was an officer of the Orange County Superior court for 18 years as a State Probate Referee.
He was an avid fisherman-lake-stream-ocean. He always had some fish to catch. His favorite thing was to go to Catalina in the summer with pals, sons or grandsons. For years he played a daily game of tennis at the Peninsula Point Racquet Club. He met weekly with his watercolor painting group who had their mutual admiration club going and had such a good time. He loved playing Hawaiian songs on his ukulele and before e-mail, he was the guy with all the jokes.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Andrea, daughter Paula and Diane (Wayne) and sons Mark and Drew (Dedie) and grandsons Michael, Ryan, Brett, Kyle and Russ, granddaughters Marisa, Kara, Cambria and Sara.
