Investigators have found no signs of foul play related to a man’s body that was found Friday in Newport Beach near the 73 Freeway, according to police.

“Although it hasn’t been officially classified, there is a strong possibility that the incident was a suicide,” Newport Beach police spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella said Monday.

A motorist who was driving north on MacArthur Boulevard called police at 2:24 p.m. Friday to report that he saw a body lying on the side road close to the onramp that leads north on the freeway, Newport Beach police Sgt. Eric Little said at the time.

It was unclear how long the body had been there, he said.
