Arson investigators are attempting to determine the cause of a fire that erupted inside a Costa Mesa church school early Sunday, fire officials said Monday.

Costa Mesa firefighters responded to Harbor Trinity Preschool, 1230 Baker St., about 3:45 a.m. after receiving multiple calls of a fire at the school’s administration building, said Battalion Chief Tom Vasin.

“The fire ended up being on the second floor in an education- and recreation-type room with equipment like pool tables that kids and teenagers might utilize,” he said.

About 34 firefighters extinguished the fire within 25 minutes of the first fire crews’ arrival. No injuries were reported.

Smoke affected several rooms on the second floor, and the first floor sustained water damage, Vasin said. Damage to the building is estimated at $100,000 and its contents at $10,000, he said.

Preschool classes continued as planned Monday.
