Gas leak closes streets in Newport
A gas leak on Quail Street shut down several Newport Beach streets for more than two hours Thursday morning, officials said.
Workers were drilling a core sample on Quail Street when they struck a high-pressure gas line around 9:45 a.m.
Police diverted traffic away from the area of Quail Street between Birch Street and Newport Plaza until noon, said police spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella.
The Gas Co.responded and fixed the line. No injuries were reported.
