A man who appeared to be in full cardiac arrest was pulled from Newport Harbor early Monday and later pronounced dead.

Hearing cries for help, neighbors on Lido Isle’s Via Lido Soud began notifying authorities shortly after 11:45 p.m. Sunday, Newport Beach Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella said.

The city’s police, fire and lifeguard departments responded to the calls, as did the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Harbor Patrol, she said.

The victim was transported to Hoag Hospital. His time of death and identification were not immediately available Tuesday afternoon.
