Coroner IDs man found in Newport Harbor
Officials have identified a man who died this week after first-responders pulled him from Newport Harbor late at night.
Donald Griffin, 49, died at Hoag Hospital at 12:40 a.m. Monday, according to the Orange County coroner’s office.
The cause of death was listed as salt-water drowning.
Earlier this week, police said Griffin appeared to be in full cardiac arrest when lifeguards and firefighters found him in the water off the 500 block of Via Lido Soud., Newport Beach.
Rescuers responded to the area when neighbors on Lido Isle called police about 11:45 p.m. Sunday to report cries for help.
Authorities found Griffin about half an hour later and took him to Hoag, police said.
The coroner’s office did not release Griffin’s city of residence.
