Woman killed in Irvine hit-and-run crash was Lake Forest resident
The woman who died in a hit-and-run crash in Irvine on Wednesday night has been identified as a 54-year-old Lake Forest resident.
Katherine Hampton was driving a Chevrolet Cruze about 9 p.m. when a Ford Mustang slammed into it near Muirlands Boulevard and Alton Parkway, authorities said.
Hampton’s adult daughter and two grandchildren, ages 2 and 7, who were riding in the Cruze were seriously injured, according to police. A woman driving a Honda Civic that also was involved in the crash was treated at a hospital and released.
After the crash, the Mustang’s driver ran away, sparking a police search that included bloodhounds and helicopters.
Detectives arrested Alec Scott Abraham, 20, of Costa Mesa, in a Costa Mesa park about 1 p.m. Thursday, Irvine police said.
Orange County Jail records show he is being held with bail set at $1 million and is due in court Monday.
An Irvine police spokeswoman declined to say which Costa Mesa park Abraham was found in.
Officials said he was treated at a hospital for minor injuries before he was booked into jail.
