Funds sought for teen’s funeral service
The family of a Costa Mesa teenager who died after a weekend car crash is raising funds for his funeral service.
Estancia High School alumnus Luis Adrian Torres, 19, died in a hospital Sunday after his Jaguar hit a tree along Susan Street near Sunflower Avenue in northern Costa Mesa, police said.
Since then, his family has set up an online fundraising site — https://www.gofundme.com/3b2vdk — that, as of 4 p.m. Tuesday, had raised $387 of a $4,500 goal.
FOR THE RECORD:
An earlier version of the story said Luis Adrian Torres died Sunday afternoon.
“We want to put him to rest,” the family wrote on the GoFundMe page, “but unfortunately the coroners won’t release him because the funeral home wants the money upfront. Please ... anything will help. Dollar by dollar, it all adds up.”
A Bank of America account has also been set up for donations. The account number is 0517918126.
Torres’ former co-workers at the Costa Mesa location of Chipotle Mexican Grill have also set up their own private donation box.
