Law enforcement carries Special Olympics torch in Newport
The final leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles took participants through Newport Beach on Monday afternoon, and a ceremony was held at the Civic Center.
Law enforcement officers and Special Olympics athletes participated.
The Special Olympics Flame of Hope was carried through several Orange County cities on Monday and will complete its journey Saturday at the opening ceremony of the World Games at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The Games, continuing through Aug. 2, will feature 7,000 athletes and 3,000 coaches from more than 175 countries.
Newport Beach is a host city for athletes from Mexico and Fiji.
