City wants input on land usage rules

Newport Beach is asking for public input and suggestions on changes for land use rules laid out in the city’s General Plan.

The City Council recently appointed a Land Use Element Amendment Advisory Committee to review potential changes to the section of the General Plan that governs how property owners can use their land, according to a new release from Newport Beach.

“The proposed changes decrease development potential in some areas of the city, while increasing it in some areas,” according to the news release.

The committee’s first meeting was July 16 where city staff presented potential adjustments.

Now the city is asking for the public to weigh in or submit their own request.

The committee’s next meeting is at 3:30 p.m. in the Central Library Friends Room, 1000 Avocado Ave.

Projects and agendas for the committee are available on the city website, newportbeachca.gov.

The changes may require voter approval because of their scope and could appear on the November 2014 ballot, according to the news release.
