$20,000 raised for Project Independence

A recent fundraiser in Costa Mesa brought in more than $20,000 to help people with disabilities and their families.

The fourth annual Walk for Independence and Health Fair, which took place Aug. 24 at TeWinkle Park, benefited Project Independence.

The nonprofit has offices in Costa Mesa, Lake Forest and Anaheim. It offers services to more than 750 people throughout Orange County who have developmental disabilities.

More than 150 people attended the event, which featured a walk, health fair, giveaways and prizes for the top walkers.

Dan Pittman, board chairman of Project Independence, said in a prepared statement before the walk that it would help with “critically needed funds for programs that enable adults with disabilities and special needs to live the best quality of life possible. This year, Project Independence is celebrating its 35th anniversary, making this event even more significant.”
