Contestants build castles on the sand

Everyone from kids to architects put their building skills to the test Sunday on the sand at Corona del Mar State Beach as the Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce presented its 53rd annual sandcastle contest.

Those serious about their sandcastles competed for prizes in various categories, though many designers were in it just for the fun.
