A Costa Mesa man was sentenced Friday to five years’ probation for killing another motorist in a wrong-way crash.

Orange County Superior Court Judge Daniel McNerney also revoked 22-year-old Tyler Bevington Sullivan’s license for five years and ordered him to pay restitution for causing the death of 47-year-old Martin Moreno.

In 2012, Sullivan was speeding in a minivan south on Bolsa Chica Road in Garden Grove when he ended up in the northbound lanes, according to prosecutors.

The van smashed head-on into a pickup carrying Moreno, who died at the scene, prosecutors said.

According to a news release from the Orange County district attorney’s office, Moreno’s family spoke at the sentencing.

His stepdaughter, who was not identified in the news release, said she was in her senior year of high school when Moreno was killed.

“He never got to see me go to prom or graduate. He didn’t get to see me off to college,” she said. “He will not be able to help me move into my dorm each year. He will never be able to walk me down the aisle at my wedding. He will never see how proud I am going to make him by not giving up.”
