Hundreds answer fitness challenge in Newport

More than 300 people tested their physical mettle Saturday by racing on a fitness obstacle course in Newport Beach as part of the first Epic Series event in Orange County.

The course at Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort included about a dozen challenges based on cross training, boot camp and strength and endurance competitions.

Some participants competed in the elite division, with challenges such as pulling a tractor.
