Grand opening Saturday for Newport’s Sunset Ridge Park

Newport Beach will celebrate the opening of Sunset Ridge Park with a free event from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

The park, on the northwest corner of West Coast Highway and Superior Avenue, will be dedicated during a brief ceremony at 11:30 a.m., followed by sports demonstrations by local youth organizations, children’s activities, snacks, a lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs, and self-guided tours of the park.

Visitors may park at 100 Superior Ave. or at Hoag Hospital’s lower-campus lot at West Coast Highway and Hoag Drive and catch a shuttle to and from the ceremony.

The 13.7-acre park includes a baseball diamond, two soccer fields, a playground, picnic tables, pedestrian paths, view areas, shade structures, a butterfly garden and restrooms.
