Gasoline spill from tanker truck in Huntington Beach downgraded to 1,000 gallons

Huntington Beach fire officials have downgraded to 1,040 gallons a gasoline spill from a tanker truck Wednesday morning that was initially reported as 8,000 gallons.

Huntington Beach fire officials responded to a Chevron terminal at 17881 Gothard St. after receiving a call at 6:15 a.m. that fuel had spilled from a tanker truck, said fire Capt. Steve Teasdale.

Teasdale said the truck was loading when its holding tank ruptured and gasoline began to spill onto the ground. It isn’t clear what caused the tank to malfunction.

The tanker has a capacity of 8,000 gallons, and fire officials initially thought the entire tank had ruptured. However, it was later determined that the truck lost 1,040 gallons, Teasdale said.

Fire crews sprayed the area with foam to prevent the fuel from igniting. Crews remained at the scene for several hours to help clean up the spill, officials said.

No one was injured.
