Water line leak shuts part of Costa Mesa street

A water line broke in northern Costa Mesa on Friday morning, causing part of Baker Street to flood.

Mesa Water District crews responded to the area near Babb Street to shut off the water and work on the problem. A corroded plug on a 16-inch pipe caused the leak, according to Stacy Taylor, Mesa Water’s external affairs manager.

St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at 1015 Baker was without water for about four hours. It was the only district customer affected, Taylor said.
