Stuart Burr Oakes died peacefully in his home in Newport Beach, CA, on November 8, 2010, at the age of 62. Stuart was born in Long Beach, California in 1948. After graduating from Yucaipa High School, he attended University of Redlands, where he met his wife, Gloria. They married in 1970.

Stuart’s love of electronics and gadgets inspired a career of developing cutting-edge battery technology programs, first at General Electric and then at International Components Corporation in Chicago. His vision of a global network for manufacturing and distribution of electronic components provided opportunities for world travel. His passion for experiencing cultures and recruiting talented individuals took him to over 30 countries, with a focus in Brazil, China, and India.

Stuart took great pleasure in traveling and sharing adventures. His family and friends have a wealth of memories from time spent with him. He is remembered as a leader, a mentor and teacher to family, colleagues and friends. Stuart embraced life with optimism, generosity and acceptance and his spirit will continue to inspire those who knew him.

Stuart is survived by his wife, sons, Jonathan (Emily) and Christopher, his mother, Shirley Curwin, a sister, Claudia and brothers, Frank and Mark, and numerous other family members.

A gathering to honor Stuart’s life will be held in his home from 11-3 pm on Sunday, December 12. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Michaels Hospice (12631 East Imperial Highway Suite F134, Santa Fe Springs, California 90670) or your local hospice.
